America was always seen as a country that will give everyone what they want. Immigrants that were coming to America, they believed in the American Dream. People that wanted to live better life come to America and hoped that they will have an opportunity to work and get their dreams. The American Dream is the heart of all American images, its controls how everyone act and what they do. Most people believe that the American Dream can be if you work hard and give all your effort to the work that you do. In the both stories â€Å"The Lost ‘Beautifulness’ Soap and Water† by Yezierska, she gives examples of American Dream that became a nightmare for her characters. Two stories are telling awful situations that were in America and were ironical for†¦show more content†¦Yezierska in her story gives a wonderful example, how the American Dream with freedom became a nightmare. ‘â€Å"Oi-i-i! The murderer! He raised me the rent five dollars a month.† H e continued, â€Å"Good for you! I told you to listen to me. Maybe he thinks we got money laying in the bank when you got so many dollars to give out on paint.†Ã¢â‚¬ ( Yezierska,† The Lost Beautifulness†,pg.# 5). This shows how easily could life change by just raised rent that could mean a nightmare for people that did not have money. Also, Hanneh said â€Å"I will have to take out from my eating the meat and the milk to save together the extra five dollars† (Yezierska, â€Å"The Lost Beautifulness†, pg#6). Henneh gave up on meat and milk to pay for the rent, these products are the most important for everyone, but sometimes we need to choose want we need more and take out other things. Moreover, American Dream most of the time is a nightmare that does not bring anything good to life. People believed in the American Dream and they work hard to get it, but mostly they do not get it. They still can be poor; they could not get a well-paid job and a rent with good conditions. It is shown in the images of Jacob Riis Photographs how did American dream become a nightmare for many people that had hoped for a better future but they just got a horrible life.
